How to Join
Priory Voices are a happy and hard-working group of singers, who are always pleased to hear from like-minded people. The only prerequisites are the ability to make a good, blended, chamber-choir sound, and to be able to sight-read reasonably well.
All music (and a CD) is provided, and is sent out approximately a month before each cathedral weekend. Singers are expected to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation
Weekends usually begin at 13.00 in the Song School of the visited cathedral, when the music is initially rehearsed. Further rehearsals then take place in the cathedral before each of the weekend services.
Singers are sent dates for the year in advance, and they sign up for whichever weekends they wish to sing. There is no pressure to sing at any of the weekends. The only commitment is to turn up to those weekends that have been requested and allocated.
Whilst the size of the choir for each particular weekend is variable, depending on the music being performed, the optimum size is 8, 6, 5, 5, which allows double-choir music to be performed without stress!!
There is no subscription to the choir. But there is an opportunity at each weekend for singers to make a small contribution to choir expenses.
Admission to the choir is by audition, which is possible to arrange at a Priory Voices cathedral weekend near to you. This will enable you to meet the choir in order to see what’s involved, and decide whether you would like to join us. If so, you can be auditioned there and then.
To apply for an audition, please contact David Johnson, giving a short resume of your singing experience, and how we can contact you.
